Dale E. Lilienthal, 86, of Durant, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at his home in Scott County, where he was born on Aug. 15, 1937, to Edwin and Velma (Paustian) Lilienthal. Private family services and visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilton. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Dale’s memory.
Dale graduated from Durant High School and attended Iowa State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Dale married Joan “Butch” Proske on May 6, 1961, in Buffalo. He and Butch farmed in Cedar and Scott Counties and sold Pioneer seed, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilton, the Durant American Legion Post #430 and a founding member of Wahkonsa Country Club. He served 10 years on the Durant School Board. He loved all sports and in early years, played fast pitch softball. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Dale is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of over 63 years, Joan and their children: James (Terri) Lilienthal of New Liberty, John (Kerri) Lilienthal of Bourbonnais, Ill., Robert (Taci) Lilienthal of Durant, and Amy Lilienthal of Durant (Bryan “Ziggy” Ziegenhorn of Muscatine); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one due in December.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bonnie Broders.
