Bryan James Goodrum, age 81, of Bettendorf, formerly of Wilton, passed away surrounded by his beloved family on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wilton. A visitation was held from 9:30 – 11 a.m., prior to mass at the church. Burial took place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Memorials may be made to the Ruth Ann Goodrum Memorial Scholarship or St. John Vianney Catholic Church Building Fund. Bryan was born on Nov. 27, 1943, the son of Bernard and Madeline (Schoonbaert) Goodrum. He was a graduate of Alleman High School (Class of 1961) and later attended classes at Blackhawk College. Bryan married Ruth Ann Boorn on June 15, 1968, and was happily married for 31 years until Ruth Ann’s sudden passing in June of 1999. Years later, Bryan met and married Judy Dugan on May 29, 2010.
Bryan’s professional journey was marked by a distinguished career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Hydraulics Branch), where he dedicated 36 years to public service, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence. In addition to his professional achievements, Bryan was a pillar of the Wilton community. His passion for the arts was evident in his 25 performances with the Wilton Fine Arts Guild. He was a recognized member of the Jaycees and the Lion’s Club, contributing his time and energy to the betterment of his community.
Bryan’s contributions extended to local youth sports, where he was instrumental in the creation of Wilton’s Cherrydale Park and youth ballfields. An avid golfer, fisherman, bowler, recreational softball player and celebrated neighborhood hoopster, Bryan’s competitive spirit and love for sports were well-known. His service on Wilton’s Board of Adjustment and as past president of the Wilton Athletic Boosters further showcased his commitment to community development.
Bryan was also an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and later with Saint John Vianney in Bettendorf, holding multiple lay leadership roles over several decades. His faith and service were central to his life, providing guidance and inspiration to those around him.
Bryan will be lovingly remembered by his loving spouse of 14 years, Judy Goodrum; his two sons, Brent (Judith) Goodrum of Anchorage, Alaska, and Joe (Lana) Goodrum of Maple Grove, Minn.; and eight cherished grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mackenzie, Madison, Ella, Jake and Mila. Bryan’s legacy of love, service, and community involvement will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ann; and his sister, Joyce Goodrum.
