Betty L. Farrar, age 89, of Durant, passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport. Private family services will be held. Burial will take place in Durant Cemetery. Betty was born on April 3, 1935, the daughter of Sebert and Mabel (Garrett) Bacon in Sullivan, Mo. She graduated from Sullivan High School. Betty married Kenneth O. Farrar on Feb. 27, 1954, in Cuba, Mo. Kenneth passed away on Dec. 17, 1996.
Betty was a librarian at the Durant Library for 15 years, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and love of reading. At home, Betty was a devoted homemaker whose heart belonged to her family. A true homebody, she cherished quiet moments spent with loved ones.
Betty was an avid reader with a particular fondness for thrilling stories, especially those written by John Grisham. She kept her mind sharp with activities like Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and board games, especially Aggravation. She enjoyed a bit of friendly competition amongst her family and friends while playing Words with Friends. Betty also had a love for adventure, particularly when it came to playing the slots at a casino. Betty’s love for her family was her greatest joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and love.
Betty will be dearly missed by one son, Kenneth (Lisa) Farrar of Fort Collins, Colo.; three daughters, Valerie (Steve) Albrecht of Canton, Ill., Sherri (Rod) Dietz of Walcott, and Lisa (Ed) Flading of Anza, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel King; and one sister in-law, Rosemary Callahan.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; seven brothers and sisters; and her brother in-law, Donald King.
