AN Editor Derek Sawvell tests positive for COVID-19

A note to our readers:

I’ve done my best. I’ve tried my hardest. But in the end, my best wasn’t good enough. As of about 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, I tested positive for COVID-19.

For the last two-plus hours, my mind has been racing and I’ve been on the phone with those closest to me. The contact tracing is one of the hardest things to face/deal with. It’s no fun being patient zero.

I will write further about this in the Nov. 12 edition of the Advocate News. Speaking of your hometown paper, my staff and I are now trying to figure out how to get the next issue to the finish line as safely as possible given all the work/logistics needed. It won’t be an easy task and we don’t have all the answers. But it begins with us having to again lock our doors starting Monday. We hope our patrons will understand, and we urge you to call or use our drop box on the outside of our building as we navigate through this.

As a lifelong seeker of truth and transparency, I wanted our readers to hear this from me first, and again I’ll write more about my experience in my next “Case in Point” installment. For now, please know that I’m doing OK and working on beating this thing!! See you all soon!
