Advocate News Football Contest: Schumaker wins week one

Posted

Week 1 of the Advocate News Football Contest proved very difficult for contestants to predict. There will be 13 games to choose winners for 12 weeks, and there will be a tie-breaker question each week (picking the total score in one of the games). The tie-breaker already came into play in week one.

The tie-breaker score was 44, the total number of points in Iowa’s 27-17 win over Iowa State.

Daren Schumaker of Mount Vernon won the $25 top prize this week, missing six games and guessing 47 for the tie-breaker.

Ed VanZandt of Wilton took second place and $15 this week, missing six games and guessing 50 for the tie-breaker.

Ben Brown and Troy Harmel tied for third place and will split $10 this week, missing seven games each and having tie-breaker predictions of 46.

This week’s scores included: Northeast 42, Durant 28; Wilton 39, Highland 14; Virginia 42, Illinois 14; Oregon 35, Ohio State 28; Pittsburgh 41, Tennessee 34; Iowa 27, Iowa State 17; Arkansas 40, Texas 21; Michigan 31, Washington 10; Vanderbilt 24, Colorado State 21; San Diego State 38, Arizona 14; BYU 26, Utah 17; Stanford 42, USC 28; TCU 34, California 32.
