Why is food production always at risk?

"We, as consumers of what was until recently an unlimited bounty of food available in our stores, and grown on all manner of farms as well as by residents living in one of the vast farming regions of the world, should all be asking ourselves and our decision-makers this: if American agriculture is such a vital and important industry – WHY is it continually placed at risk, teetering on the next natural or man-made disaster to negatively impact it, and us ..."
