Obituary: Virgil Creger

Private family visitation and a funeral service were held for Virgil M. Creger, 98, of Blue Grass. Interment, with full military honors, was in the Blue Grass Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Bentley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Creger died Thursday, May 21, 2020, at his home.

Virgil Creger was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Massillon, the son of Arthur and LaVerne (Moulton) Creger. He attended Blue Grass and Davenport schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Helen Steffen on May 26, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. She died March 17, 2011.

He and his wife farmed in Scott County, near Blue Grass, for many years, retiring in 2001. He also worked for Kautz/Zuber Lumber Company in Blue Grass.

He was a 60-year member of the Blue Grass American Legion Post #711.

His hobbies were hunting, trap shooting, and boating.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice (Victor) Danz, Blue Grass; his daughters-in-law, Carole Creger, Davenport, and Ellen (Larry) Burkholder, Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Lisa (Chad) Glowinski, Erik (Michele) Creger, Christopher (Kristy) Creger, Jenna (Jason) Pierce, Chad (Laura) Dickey, and Jodi (Art) Crago; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Jim Creger.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Grass American Legion.
