Obituary: Sue Knapper

Sue Ellen (Coder) Knapper, 66, of McCausland, passed away on Sept. 12, 2024, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at Trimble City View, 701 12th Street, Moline, on Nov. 3 from 1-4 p.m.

Sue was born Dec. 29, 1957, at Moline Public Hospital to Clifford and Jeanette (Harker) Coder of Hampton, Ill., graduated from United Township High School, and held an associate’s degree in technical writing from Blackhawk College.

On Nov. 12, 1994, she married Alan Knapper of McCausland.

Sue held many jobs during her life, including Y & S Candies in Moline and the Rock Island Arsenal. In 2019, she retired from the billing department at Mid-American Energy in Davenport.

She enjoyed the theater, as a performer, backstage and audience member. She was an avid reader, enjoyed attending her husband’s musical performances, traveling, and spending time with their dogs and cats.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Alan; her mother, Jeanette Harker of Clinton; brother, Dustin Coder (Jona) of Hampton, Ill.; sister, Sara Coder (Emily) of Arvada, Colo.; nonbiological/heart sister Sue Apple (David) of Moline; seven nieces and nephews, their spouses and children; the entire Knapper family; and an extended family not linked by blood or marriage.

Preceding her in death was her father, Clifford.

Memorials can be made to the Hampton Historical Society.
