Steven B. Hamilton, 75, of LeClaire, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. His long courageous battle for healing has ended. He won not here on earth, but in heaven with his Lord and Savior.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Savior Presbyterian Church, LeClaire. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Presbyterian Church or to LeClaire 4-H.
Steve was born on Feb. 9, 1949, in Davenport, the son of Howard and Elaine (Bonnell) Hamilton. Following his high school graduation, he attended Iowa State University. On Dec. 22, 1976, he was united in marriage to Dawn Dirksen. Steve was a farmer at heart and in life. He won the Master Pork Producer Award, was a 4-H leader, and an elder at Our Savior Presbyterian Church, LeClaire. Steve served on the Pork Producer and Beef Producer Boards and was a Scott County Century Farm.
Steve was patient and loving to those he knew and empathetic to those he did not know. His kindness was boundless. Most of all, he was a man of faith. The aspect of Jesus’ death that made the deepest impression on him was that Jesus died for him and paid the sacrifice for him. He had a heart for people. If Steve knew you, he probably had you on his “list.” He had prayer lists with names and would pray over them daily.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Dawn Hamilton of LeClaire; children, Kristin (Brad) Chenoweth of Cottontown, Tenn., Jodi (Steve Wassenhove) Hamilton of LeClaire, and Seth (Joslyn) Hamilton of LeClaire; three grandchildren, Isabella Chenoweth, Maggie Chenoweth, and Isaiah Hamilton; sisters, Janice (Mark) Carpenter, Becky Hamilton, and Kathy (Kathy Burkhardt) Hamilton; cousin, Debbie Cannon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Rev. Melvin and Betty Dirksen; son-in-law, Scott Madison; and several aunts and uncles.
