Obituary: Stanley Benson

Stanley Benson, 81, of Sacramento, Calif., passed away Feb. 15, 2021, after an extended illness. Stanley requested no memorial service, but his wish was to be cremated, with his ashes scattered off of Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay.

Stanley Merle Benson was born April 10, 1939, to Earl and Mildred Benson of LeClaire, and grew up with his three brothers at the Benson farm home near Argo. Stanley graduated from LeClaire High School in 1957. After graduating from the University of Dubuque (Iowa), Stanley taught school in various Iowa school districts before moving to San Francisco, where he was employed by Bankers Life. This employment led Stanley to worldwide travel. Stanley studied computer science before most people even knew the computer world existed. This knowledge led him to a position as an assistant to an attorney in San Francisco. He traveled the United States securing sites for communication towers until his retirement, when he moved to Sacramento. During his retired years, Stanley did private tutoring to students. Stanley was known for his kindness.

Stanley is survived by his life partner of 34 years, Lee Middleton of Sacramento; brother, Gary Benson of LeClaire; sisters-in-law Bess Benson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marilyn Benson of Moline.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mildred; brothers Wesley of Phoenix and Larry of Moline; and sister-in-law, Kay Benson (Gary) of LeClaire.
