Obituary: Sally Mordhorst

Sally Sue Mordhorst, age 79, of Walcott, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at Wilton Retirement Community.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 12, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott.  A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service at the church.  Burial will take place in Walcott Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Sally was born in Davenport on Oct. 22, 1943, the daughter of Donald and Clara (Schorr) Mordhorst.  She graduated from Davenport Central High School, with the Class of 1962.  Sally was a waitress at their family diner, Mort’s Cafe, in Walcott for many years.  She later worked at I-80 Truckstop Restaurant before retiring in 2010.  She was a lifetime member of Calvary United Methodist Church.  Sally loved reading, playing bingo and playing cards, especially canasta.  She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan.  Most of all, Sally loved her family and cherished visiting with family and friends.

Sally is lovingly remembered by her sister, Donna Davison of Walcott; four nieces, Susi (Jeff) Weber, Tami (Tom) McCleery, Jodi (Steve Herlica) Grunwald, and Jane (Curt) Christopher; one nephew, Donny (Marissa) Davison; 10 great-nieces and nephews, Davis and Dalani Weber, Donielle (Craig) Chelf, Tug (Allison) McCleery, Brandon and Cara Grunwald, Kevin (Tara) Christopher, Hope Christopher, and Courtney and Haley Davison; several great-great nieces and nephews; and one brother-in-law, Jerry Hensen. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jeanne Hensen; and brother-in-law, Burton Davison.

The family would like to thank Wilton Retirement Community and her great nephew, Davis, for their loving care the past few years.
