Obituary: Roger Holdorf

Roger Allen Holdorf, age 63, of rural Walcott, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 31, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 1, at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Maysville Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Roger was born in Davenport on Aug. 15, 1959, the son of Annetta Ann (Arp) and Laverne August Holdorf.  He graduated from Davenport West High School.  Roger married Norma Martinez on Nov. 19, 1988, in Walcott.

Roger farmed his entire life on their family farm alongside his sons, Alex and Jason.  They grew corn and soybeans and tended to their dairy herd.  He was a member of the Walcott Lions Club, Swiss Valley Coop, and later Prairie Farms.  He was also a certified steamer with Old Thresher Reunion in Mt. Pleasant.  In his spare time, Roger loved attending tractor shows and the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and canoeing.

Roger will be dearly missed by his wife, Norma; two sons, Alex Holdorf and Jason Holdorf, both of Walcott; one brother, Duane (Jodee) Holdorf of Dixon; one sister, Julie (Doug) Humphrey of Milan, Ill.; four brothers-in-law, Nestor Martinez, Jr., Eddie (Titter) Martinez, Mitch Martinez and Alonzo (Monique) Martinez; one sister-in-law, Liza Martinez-Singer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters-in-law, Karen and Julie Martinez.
