Obituary: Mary Margret Hauck

Mary Margret Hauck, 95, of Wilton, formerly of Blue Grass, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, in Wilton.  Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.  Memorials may go to the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary, Sweetland United Methodist Church or to the Friends of the Pine Creek Grist Mill. Mary was born July 27, 1926, on the family farm, in rural Muscatine County.  She was the daughter of Edgar E. and Beulah E. (French) Kemper.  On June 4, 1947, she married Wallace “Wally” Hauck at the Sweetland United Methodist Church.  He passed away on Dec. 31, 2001.

She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and later from Marycrest College in Davenport.  She taught at the Hazel Dell and Patterson one-room schools in Muscatine County and went on to teach at Buffalo Elementary School for 28 years. 

Her memberships included Sweetland United Methodist Church, Friends of Pine Creek Grist Mill, Friends of the Old Stone Church and the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved going to Wild Cat Den, puzzles, playing cards and knitting.  Her greatest passion was her family and spending time with her granddaughters and great grandsons.

Mary is survived by and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary Kay (Randy) Huesmann, Stockton, son-in-law, Bill Butkus, Melbourne, Fla., granddaughters:  Nancy Lemke, Lori (Troy) Sparks and Sara Walker (Ken Fortmann), great grandsons:  Dylan, Zach, Chase and Cooper, brothers: Paul and Edward Kemper and sisters: Gladys Mittman and Catherine “Kitty” Root and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  In addition to Wally, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Butkus, grandson-in-law, Eric Lemke, a brother, Mark Kemper and sisters:  Ruth Denison, Martha Hetzler and Doris Kruse.
