Obituary: Marjorie O'Dell

Marjorie R. O’Dell, age 91, of Eldridge, formerly of Moline, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at the Kahl Home, Davenport. Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday Nov. 11, at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, Ill.  Burial is in the New Boston Cemetery.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at Fippinger’s, where memorials may be left to the St. John’s United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association or Wounded Warrior Project.  Online condolence can be made at fippingerfuneralhome.com.

She was born Oct. 25, 1930, in rural Woodhull, Ill., to A. Raymond and Cosetta Stiers Luallen.  She graduated from Woodhull High School in 1948 and Morse School of Cosmetology in 1949.   On June 17, 1956, she married Edward “Pike” O’Dell in Woodhull.  He died June 2, 2015.

Marjorie was employed for 37 years, first at Bishop’s Buffet at Duck Creek, Bettendorf and then Bishop’s Cafeteria at SouthPark, Moline. She enjoyed eating out with family and friends and especially enjoyed her co-workers and customers.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was active in the UMW in her younger years.

She is survived by three sons, Dwight O’Dell of Baytown, Texas, Tracy (Patti) O’Dell of Eldridge, Drew O’Dell of Rock Island; three grandchildren, Shannon (Zach) VanMeter, Anthony O’Dell, both of Des Moines, Kate O’Dell of Parnell, Iowa; two great-grandsons, Watson and Everett VanMeter of Des Moines; one sister, Bernice Asplund of Bettendorf; several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, one son, Shawn, and two brothers, Willis and Donald Luallen, preceded her in death.
