Obituary: Lynn Soenksen

Lynn Fredrick Soenksen, 82, of LeClaire, died Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2021, at Clarissa Cook Hospice in Bettendorf.

Lynn was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Clinton, the son of Carl and Elsie (Kuehl) Soenksen. He married Judy Kay Clausen on May 26, 1973, in Maquoketa.

After high school, he joined the Army in 1959.  Lynn was the top shot on the rifle team while stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., until he was sent to serve in Korea.  He was discharged in 1961.  Lynn retired from local unions 150 and 537 after 55 years as an operating engineer.

Lynn enjoyed traveling, planning motorcycle trips, target shooting, telling stories and making people smile.  He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; dear friend Sarah Shaw of Bettendorf; brother, Milo (Norma Jean) Soenksen of DeWitt; sisters, Jeanette (John) Eastman of Moline, and JoAnn (Dale) Greve of DeWitt; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lynn in death were his daughter Tanya Chau, parents, brothers, Richard and Floyd and a sister, Ruth.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, and an additional hour at the church before the service on Friday. Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, Princeton.  Burial at Reeseville Cemetery, Green Island, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Randy Soenksen, Allen Soenksen, Wayne Foss, Mark Soenksen, Dean Soenksen, and Steve Dickey.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or family wishes.
