Obituary: Loretta Beitel

A funeral service for Loretta E. Beitel, 84, of Walcott, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Burial was in the Walcott Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 15, from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Beitel died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at her home.

Loretta Hayne was born June 29, 1935, in Iowa City, the daughter of John and Martha (Dettman) Hayne. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1953.

She married Bernhard “Ben” Beitel on Nov. 24, 1956, in Davenport. He died Nov. 15, 2008.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, and a member of ASHHS, the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary, the Walcott Day Committee, and was past president of the Walcott Cemetery Board.

Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles, polka music, and traveling.

Survivors include her sons, Darren (LaDonna) Beitel, Davenport, and Mark Beitel, Stockton; a granddaughter, Alyssa Beitel (Brett Marbach); a sister, Patricia Lovewell, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; a brother, John Hayne, Davenport; a sister-in-law, Martha Otte, Princeton; and a brother-in-law, Jack Horton, Rock Island.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cyndi Beitel; three sisters, Dolores Carman, Myrna Horton, and Dorothy McVey; and three brothers-in-law, Larry Lovewell, Jerry McVey, and Karl Otte.
