Obituary: Leonard Hamann

Leonard J. Hamann, 82, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.  Visitation was held from 4–7 p.m. on Monday evening at the church.  Burial was at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, assisted the family with arrangements.

Leonard was born on Dec. 25, 1940, in Davenport to Henry and Margaret (Lorenzen) Hamann Jr.  Following his graduation from North Scott High School, he served in the Army National Guard.  On Sept. 1, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joann Moeller in Davenport.  Together they raised three children on their family farm in rural Scott County.  Leonard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Scott Co. Pork Producers, and Farm Bureau.  He also served as director of River Valley Co-op and Central Scott Telephone Company.  Leonard enjoyed his life’s passion of farming, traveling, and spending time with his family.   

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Joann Hamann of Davenport; children, Wendy (David) Green of Ankeny, Dennis (Laura) Hamann of Rockwall, Texas, and Randy (Michelle) Hamann of Eldridge; grandchildren, Logan and Brady Green, Brandon, Jessica, and Elisabeth Hamann, and Emma and Grace Hamann; sister, Nancy Steffen of Durant; and sisters-in-law, Carol (Jim) Bayles and Darlene Schluensen, all of Bettendorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Herbert and Josephine Moeller.
