Obituary: Larry Koberg

Larry Henry Koberg, 72, of Walcott, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, at Genesis East.  A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at The Runge Mortuary.  Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the mortuary.  Burial will be in the Walcott Cemetery.  Memorials may go to the Walcott American Legion, of which he was a member, or to the Hearts & Hands Foundation of Walcott.  Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

Larry was born May 6, 1949 in Davenport.  He was the son of Ralph and Edna (Johannsen) Koberg.  He graduated from St. Ambrose College.  He started as a meter reader at Mid-American Energy, but was called to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He returned to Mid-American Energy, where he retired as a systems analyst after 45 years. 

He was a sports enthusiast and loved everything about the Iowa Hawkeyes.  He enjoyed attending all sporting events through the years.  He was active in the Walcott community in various capacities and with the International Softball Congress.  He helped form the former North Scott “I” Club, and was active in the Quad City and National “I” Clubs.  He loved going to Circa 21 and vacationing at their condo in South Padre Island.  He loved classic cars and owned a 1938 Chevrolet.

Honoring his memory include wife, Nancy, daughters, Lori Ehlers, East Moline, and Lisa (Mark) Goodwin, Walcott; grandchildren:  Mitchell Harksen (Kaylee Blazer) and Carter and Lane Goodwin; brother, Ron, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Bernice Koberg, Plain View; his beloved cat and “best buddy,” Beau, who was such a good boy, and Beau’s twin sister, Button. His parents, brother, Kenneth, and sister, Karole Snyder, preceded him in death.
