Obituary: June Wilson

June Wilson, 89, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Fieldstone in DeWitt.

June was born July 5, 1934, in Miami, Fla., the daughter of Hyman and Thelma (Downey) Mizell. She graduated from Reddick High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Bradford Wilson. They married soon after graduation and were blessed with two children. June later received a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern. She retired from the Sarasota County School System as a reading specialist. Tom preceded her in death in 1970.

June was a member of Church of the Palms in Sarasota, where she was very involved as a Stephen Minister. She was also a member of P.E.O. June was a sweet kind soul, who loved, and was loved by, all.

She is survived by her son, Stephan (Melanie) Wilson of Eldridge; her daughter, Linda Wilson of Sarasota; and her niece/bonus daughter, Donna Hunt of New Jersey; grandsons, Evan Wilson and Carter Wilson, both of Eldridge; siblings, Romey (Judy) Mizell, Barbara Duety, and Raymond Elholm; sisters-in-law, Jane Elholm and Joyce Wilson; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Hyman and Runell Mizell; and mother and stepfather, Thelma and Raymond Elholm; siblings, Robert Mizell, Valerie (Jim) Mayfield, and Esther (Bud) Horne; brother-in-law, Lee Duety; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben (June) Shaw, David (Jean) Wilson, and Rodney Wilson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19 (today), at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Micanopy, Fla., with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Fieldstone for the care and kindness shown to June during her time there.
