Obituary: Jeanette Scherer

Jeanette M. Scherer, 95, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, at Genesis East Medical Center. Visitation was held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Runge Mortuary. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at the mortuary. She was laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. Jeanette was born Sept. 23, 1927, to William and Frieda (Hamann) Schnoor. On Feb. 14, 1950, she married the love of her life, Harold Scherer in Davenport. They were married for 72 years.

Jeanette was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren’s activities. She loved to bake and was always willing to help any organization. Jeanette belonged to Eastern Iowa Antique Tractor Pullers, where she was treasurer, did the announcing, kept scores and handed out awards. She was also on the Iowa State Fair Antique Tractor Pullers planning committee. 

Jeanette was a former Ann Ken Izaak Walton League member, Scott County Farm Bureau and Liedertafel Ladies. She volunteered at Mississippi Valley Fair Textile Department and received an award for many years of service. She was also a member of the Mississippi Valley Dairy Producers. 

Jeanette farmed, alongside of her husband, and also milked cows on their dairy farm for many years. She helped prepare the ground for planting crops and with harvesting corn. She was passionate of canning fruits and vegetables from the garden.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harold Scherer; daughters, Carol (Harvey) Klindt, Bettendorf, and Donna (Brian) Carter, Princeton; grandchildren: David Klindt, Bettendorf, Daniel (Jennifer) Klindt, Eldridge, Sarah Carter, Davenport, and Tyler Carter, Davenport; along with great-grandchildren, Kylie Klindt and Andrew Klindt.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
