Jane E. Leggins, 73, of Eldridge, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time. Inurnment followed at Oakview Cemetery, Welton. Memorials may be directed to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue – No Kill Shelter or to the family.
Jane Ellen Fitz-Randolph was born on March 30, 1952, in Welton, the daughter of Orville Francis and Erma (Smith) Randolph Sr. She graduated in 1970 from DeWitt Central High School, where she played saxophone in the band and played basketball. In her younger years she worked at various jobs, including a local doughnut shop and community assistance with the City of Davenport. Jane later worked for 28 years at the Rock Island Arsenal building bulletproof parts and accessories for the Humvee. She earned the highest honor awarded to civilian employees and spent much of her time traveling for her job. She retired in 2010.
Jane was devoted to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was kind, sweet, loving, and charming, which she often told people “not to forget!” Cooking and baking pies for family and friends was something she enjoyed greatly. She had a love for animals, traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, and canning.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband, James Leggins of Eldridge; her children, Erma Higgins and Daniel Childers, both of Davenport; eight grandchildren, Tiante, Alexis, Elijah, Andrew, Ariel, Jasmine, Khloe, and Charlotte; sisters, Eva Randolph of East Peoria, Ill., and Nadine Ross of Rock Island; brothers, Richard Randolph of Urbana, Ill., and Jeff Randolph of California; and 70 nieces and nephews and over 150 great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Martha, Verna, Mary, Audrey, Oralee, Louella, Faith Ann, Brian, Daniel, Orville Francis, Orville Fitz, and James.
