Gaylen L. Krebs, 80, of Durant, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, in San Diego, Calif. A funeral service was held Feb. 15 in El Cajon, Calif. Cremation rites have been accorded, and per his wishes, his ashes will be spread in Colonial Creek, Washington, with his wife following her passing.

He was born March 11, 1942, the son of Eldo and Helen Krebs.

He was a Specialist in the U.S. Army, serving from 1963-1966.

He married his wife, Kathleen, on June 23, 1991.

He was an Iowa farm boy from Durant. He loved woodworking, gardening, nature photography, birdwatching and the Seattle Mariners baseball team. He could tell you about every player. He had a million stories about his family, growing up on the farm, bee keeping, milking cows and bringing produce to town. He hasn’t been able to do any of his hobbies in a long time, and we hope that’s what he is doing now.

We were able to care for him at home throughout his illness. He passed in his favorite recliner, with his dogs, watching the news under a blanket made by his daughter Sondra.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughters Kristen Beck and Sondra Kelly; sons Douglas Krebs and Bradley Krebs; grandchildren Kaitlen Beck, Erin Kelly, Adam Kelly, Brenna Kelly, Heather Krebs and Jacqi Paugh; his sister, Kathlene Krebs; and his dogs, Snuffles, Lily and Luna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldo and Helen Krebs; and his siblings, Eldo Krebs, Nannette Boardwell and Kenneth Krebs.

Special thanks to his son-in-law and caregiver, James Beck.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
