Obituary: Gary Simatovich

Gary Lee Simatovich, 31, of Bettendorf, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial were celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial was in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military honors. Visitation was held Thursday, May 22, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with additional visitation held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for his children or to a favorite charity in memory of Gary.

Gary Lee Simatovich was born on April 3, 1994, in Ames, a son of Monica (Ryan) and Scott L. Simatovich.  He was a 2012 graduate of North Scott High School.  He proudly served our country in the Army Reserves for eight years, serving one year at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Gary was self-employed in property management in the Quad City area.  He was a free spirit with a generous soul. Gary enjoyed hunting, golfing, and fishing, especially when doing it with his children.  He loved animals and beautiful country sunsets. He also enjoyed volunteering, specifically making meals for those in need through a ministry at All Saints Catholic School. Gary was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa State Cyclones.

Those left to honor Gary’s memory are his children: Emma and Levi; his parents: Monica (Luke) Westfall, Eldridge, and Scott (Melissa) Simatovich, Davenport; siblings: Ryan, Maria, Isabelle, Austin (Kelsey), Nick (Allison), Zoya, Bella, Corbin, Matilda, and Lucy; grandparents: Richard “Dick” and Cheryl Ryan, Davenport, Diane Ritter, Blue Grass, Becky Westfall, Marion, Dean Van Acker, Muscatine, and Bob and Marianne Corbin, Davenport, great-grandfather, Donald Corbin, Davenport, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandparents: Gary Simatovich and Cecil Ritter.
