Francis R. Younkin, 79, of Eldridge, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at University of Iowa Hospitals. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at Weerts Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the funeral home. Burial followed at Mt. Joy Cemetery, Park View. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com.
Francis was born on Oct. 18, 1945, in Davenport to Rene and Ciretta (Smith) Younkin. Francis graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1964 prior to his service in the United States Army in 11th Cavalry in 1967. He was united in marriage to Pat Ragan on Jan. 15, 1969, in LeClaire. Francis was employed in the communications trade as a phone installation and service technician.
Francis’s favorite pastimes were watching his grandchildren in their sporting events, gardening, listening to music, hunting, wood working, and riding motorcycles, not to mention his master MacGyver skills, but his fondest times were spent with his family and friends. Francis was a dedicated and wonderful Husband, Father, Papo and Friend. He loved watching The Voice on Monday nights with his granddaughter Alli. Papo touched so many lives and has always been known for his loving support of all.
Francis is survived by his loving wife Pat; sister, Cherilynn (Chris) Mueller of The Villages, Fla.; children, Brandi (Tim) Schneckloth, of Park View, Josh (Kristen) Younkin of Blue Grass; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene Younkin and Dale Younkin.
The family requested all attendees to dress in casual attire.
