Dorothy Irene was born on March 21, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to George and Fern (Gray) Bennett. Growing up in a military family, they moved many times, and she graduated from high school on the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base in North Carolina. On Oct. 5, 1962, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, William Bayles, and they began their family in California where Bill was stationed at Travis Air Force Base. They moved back to Iowa in 1967 to work the family farm in Scott County until 1973, when they moved to their own farm between Maquoketa and Andrew. Dottie worked for several years at the Jackson County Public Hospital and then at KMAQ radio station for 35 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, a Franciscan Associate in Dubuque, a past member of the Maquoketa Library Board and the Jackson County Fair Board. She loved to spend her time traveling and socializing with family and friends. Dottie truly had a giant heart and always made sure that everyone around her was happy.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two children: Maureen (David) Moos of Minneapolis, Minn., Mark (Peggy) Bayles of Gallitzin, Pa., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters: Kathy, Georgia and Gerry.
