Obituary: Dorothy Auliff

Dorothy Auliff, 97, of DeWitt, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.

Dorothy Marie Oelerich was born Sept. 16, 1924, to Detlef and Rose (Moenck) Oelerich, in Davenport. She married Foster J. Auliff on June 15, 1946, at the Argo United Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death in 1997.

After graduating from Davenport High School with Normal Training in 1942, she was a schoolteacher in one-room schools in LeClaire Township. She and her husband farmed in Princeton Township for 70 years.

Dorothy was a 75-year member of Our Savior Presbyterian Church in rural LeClaire, where she served as ruling elder, Sunday School teacher, choir director, and pianist. She was a 4-H leader in Princeton Township for 12 years, a member of the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 Auxiliary and the Genesis DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary.

Dorothy enjoyed singing in the church choir and quilting with the women of the church. Every family member cherishes a handmade quilt by Grandma. She also loved baking, canning, gardening, and sewing.

She is survived by her children, Carole Sue (Ronald) Oliver of Long Grove, and Mary Lou (John) Havens of Monmouth, Ill.; grandchildren, Lisa Oliver (Dann) Kemmann, Mark (Dawnette) Oliver, Matthew (Melissa) Oliver, Laura Oliver (Terry) Lassiter, Rebecca (Aric) Fiscus, James (Anne) Havens, and Amanda Havens (Joseph) Pilger; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire.
