David (Dave) W. Mess, 52, passed away on March 3, 2025, in Camanche, while surrounded by his wife and daughters.

David was born on Jan. 27, 1973, in Davenport, to Ronald and Rosemary Mess. He graduated from North Scott High School in Eldridge. Dave married the love of his life, Paula White, on Sept. 25, 2004. While he spent many years as a maintenance worker at Blackhawk Bank and Trust before transitioning to a custodial role at Camanche Elementary for six years, he would begin his most prized role as a father in 2006, when his daughter, Abby, was born. The family would grow again in 2009, when Taylor was born. David finished his career at Ekstrand Elementary in DeWitt, where he served for five years.

A devoted and loving husband and father, David is survived by his wife, Paula Mess; his daughters, Abby R. Mess and Taylor O. Mess; his mother, Rosemary Mess; his brother, Bob (Juli Sundholm) Mess; and mother-in-law, Barb White. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Mess, and his father-in-law, Thomas White.

David found joy in the outdoors and cherished time spent hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes. Above all else, he loved being with his family. Known for his caring nature, helpful spirit, and strong work ethic, David touched the lives of many through both his professional dedication and personal kindness.

A funeral service was held on March 7, at Cornerstone Church in Eldridge. The visitation began at 9:30 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m.

David’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing and loving him.
