Clifford Kenneth Smith, 84, of Davenport, received his Angel wings on the morning of Sept. 3, 2021, after a brief stay at Genesis East Medical Center.
Cliff was born on May 24, 1937, to Clifford and Francis (Sabin) Smith in Earlham, Iowa. He married his bride, Vivian “Bobbi” (Stice) on March 22, 1958.
Cliff and Bobbi moved to Davenport in 1963. He was involved with the Davenport West Little League and Pony League organizations. He was also involved with the Quad City Fan Association, where he held many positions. He was a devoted member at Grace United Methodist Church, and held many positions with the church.
Cliff ran a successful painting company for over 35 years called Expert Painting Inc. He retired in 2001, but was soon back to work in 2002 at a place he would later refer to as his “happy place.”
For the next 19 years and up until his final round, Glynns Creek Golf Course would become his work and play. He was also employed at Strieter Motors in Davenport, doing what he also loved to do, driving vehicles to and from different locations throughout the United States.
He was an avid golfer and loved to watch his L.A. Dodgers and Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams.
He is survived by his “one and only” loving wife of 63 years, Bobbi; son, Brian Smith, Eldridge; daughter Dana (Smith) Sharpe, Carbon Cliff, Ill.; grandsons, Bryn, John, Danny and Kadyn; granddaughters, Nichole, LaShell, Kortney and Bailey; eight grand-grandkids and two great-great-grandkids; sister, Patty Gilliland, Des Moines; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his sister, Audrey; daughter Jeri-Lyn Waline (Smith); and granddaughter, Tia-Marie Smith.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, per his wishes, in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the funeral home.
