Anne passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, in Rio Rancho, N.M. She was born to Frank and Roma Ewoldt in Eldridge on June 15, 1932.
She graduated from Davenport High School in 1950. As a “bus” student, high school activities were limited, but she excelled in the Scott County 4-H organization. She was a member of the Sheridan Hustlers 4-H Club from age 10 and to her graduation at 21. Anne and her club teammate won 1st Place on the Scott County Demonstration Team in garment construction and went on to win a Blue Ribbon at the Iowa State Fair. She also won the Better Grooming Contest wearing the outfit she made. She was also elected president of the Scott County 4-H Organization.
She attended Iowa State College, Ames, in home economics and later Eastern NM University in Roswell, getting additional credits in education and native studies.
Anne was married to Horace (Jack) Jackson from 1953 to 1965, starting their married life in Bermuda. This marriage produced a daughter, Julia Anne, two sons Jeffry Andrew and Joel Ewoldt Jackson. In 1971, Anne married Harrell Paschall in Roswell, and they formed a blended family with Anne’s three and his four sons: Johnny, Donnie, Dennis and Paul Paschall.
Professionally, Anne served as director of Head Start in Roswell. Anne started this program as one of the first in the state. She also started a program giving domestic workers a certification so they could ask for higher wages. After her 20 years as Head Start director, she went on to work for the State of New Mexico, guaranteeing the safety of childcare facilities in her region. Because of her work with Early Childhood Education, she was invited to participate in “People to People International” in Beijing, China, and in Columbia and Venezuela to be with other Early Childhood Educators around the world sharing cultural and educational experiences.
Anne began her religious education in the Eldridge Community Sunday School, which met in the Eldridge School basement before there was a church in the town. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, brought Confirmation classes to the rural area, and she was confirmed and became a member of St Paul’s. As she moved around the country with a husband in the Air Force, the church was important to her. When she set roots in Roswell to continue raising her family, she joined St. Mark Lutheran Church and served on most, if not all committees in the church. She remained active until moving to Albuquerque to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Anne greatly loved her family, her friends, her church, beautiful clothes, vivid colors, a good book, the New Mexico sunsets, and pursued with great energy and enthusiasm, the adventure of living.
