Obituary: Alene Ruhl

Alene F. Ruhl, 84, of Davenport, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Mercy One Hospital, Clinton.

Cremation will be done, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Memorials in her name may be made to the Scott County Humane Society. Please share condolences with the family at www.Rungemortuary.com. 

Alene was born on Aug. 12, 1940, in Jackson County to Glenn and Frances (Elsner) McCallister. She was united in marriage to Gary E. Ruhl on Aug. 22, 1959, in Maquoketa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2024.

Alene was a loving wife and mom to her children and the entire neighborhood.  Her neighbors were important to her, and she was grateful for all the help they provided. Alene rooted for the Iowa Hawkeye football, basketball teams and was a huge Caitlin Clark fan. She was an avid reader, loved to cook for her family, and travel, especially to Hatfield, Wis., and Half Moon Trails, Minn. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and her incredible grand and great-grandchildren. Alene also enjoyed her happy hour.

Survivors include three daughters, Tracy Kramer, Jodi (Rod) Bender, and Kerry (Jeremy) Marquette; seven grandchildren, Dana, Brett, Kendra, Evan, Kacie, Dennis, and Kira; six great-grandchildren, Remy, Kinsleigh, Nolan, Mason, Hunter, and Reese; special friend Michelle; sister Susan Carlin; and brother Jack McCallister.

Alene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Mick and Bub McCallister; and a sister, Bev Ford.
