UPDATE: Lewis June 30 open house by invitation only

Lewis Machine and Tool welcomes workers, their families and other invited guests to its new Eldridge plant, 1600 E. Leonard Court, June 30.

The firm had issued an open house press release earlier this month. On Sunday, company representative Matt Pruitt said the event was limited to employees and invited guests.

Sen. Joni Ernst is scheduled to be at the plant Monday along with officials from Estonia, the nation that agreed to a major purchase from Lewis.

LMT moved to Eldridge from Milan, Illinois thanks in part to a $1.3 million property tax rebate granted by Eldridge council members and grants and loans totaling $1.2 million from Iowa taxpayers.

The firm makes firearms for military, police and personal use.

“With almost 40 years under our belt, our new facility shows the direction we are headed,” company officials wrote in a press release for the event. “With… our ability to expand and grow our capabilities in our new Eldridge, Iowa facility, we seek to not only compete but dominate the commercial and defense markets.”
