Drive by, wish Mr. DeWitt a Happy 96th Birthday

Mark Sunday, March 14, on your calendar! That is when William D. “Bill” Homrighausen, also known as “Mr. DeWitt,” will observe his 96th birthday.

His celebration will require limitations due to COVID-19. Instead of an open house, his revised plan calls for a drive-by including birthday treats. Bill plans to be seated on the front porch of his home at 825 Seventh St., DeWitt. Refreshments will be served at the curb by carhops.

Bill was born on the Duke Family farm, south of Grand Mound, March 12, 1925. He relocated to DeWitt at age 5 to begin school. He graduated with the DeWitt High School Class of 1943.

He had a 42-year business career with Iowa Mutual Insurance Co., retiring in 1986. He is a longtime member of the DeWitt Noon Lions Club.

Bill met Shirley Davis, a journalist with The Quad-City Times, and they married in 1983. Her passing came in 2018.

Everyone is invited to drive by between 2 and 4 p.m. and can expect a wave and some air kisses in return. Cards also are welcome.
