North Scott School District officials said a security sweep at the high school today was "routine and unannounced."

According to a release by director of communications Michelle Skadal:

"A routine and unannounced security sweep was conducted at North Scott High School earlier today. This standard procedure involved school administrative personnel, Student Resource Officer, and the Eldridge and Bettendorf Police Department, and their K-9 units.

"The security protocol for this type of sweep includes the temporary securing of classroom doors and students remaining in their classrooms. This is a precautionary measure to facilitate the efficient and thorough completion of the sweep.

"At no point during this routine security measure were there any safety concerns for students or staff within the high school or any other building in the North Scott Community School District.

"In adherence to the unannounced nature of this routine sweep, communication to families was initiated via the district's messaging system as the event neared its conclusion. This approach is consistent with maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of such security protocols.

"The North Scott Community School District remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. Routine security measures, such as the sweep conducted today, are part of this ongoing commitment."
