Oct. 9. 1996: Local fire departments were feeling the crunch due to a lack of manpower and funds. Many departments were looking to purchase new rescue vehicles, including Eldridge, which would take delivery of a $188,000 truck in the spring. Riverboat grants provided some budgetary assistance.
