June 10, 1982: The old schoolhouse in McCausland was destroyed by fire. The McCausland and Long Grove fire departments worked overnight to try to extinguish the blaze. The building was constructed in 1918, for students in Butler Township District No. 7, and students in kindergarten through eighth grade attended school there until the North Scott District was formed in 1957. While currently unoccupied, the McCausland City Council had recently approved zoning to convert the building into a duplex.
