(BPT) - September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Every 36 minutes, a child in the United States is diagnosed with cancer, making it the leading cause of death by disease for children in the United States. Despite this, there is hope: thanks to major treatment advances, more than 85% of children diagnosed with cancer now survive five years or more, a significant improvement from the mid-1970s, when the 5-year survival rate was just 58%. Since 1998, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has been a major contributor to childhood cancer research and program grants, investing in life-saving treatments and innovative research. This year, the nonprofit will award $26 million in new research grants, bringing its total giving to over $250 million since its inception.
