‘Time for Wilton to reinvent itself’

I firmly believe that the city of Wilton needs to take a proactive approach to the coronavirus and other current changes in our society. To think that life will go back to life as usual is foolish. Now is no time to put your head in the sand. I would strongly suggest that the city administration begin by studying the works of Alvin Toffler, the author of “Future Shock” and “The Third Wave.”

Everything he predicted 30 years ago is coming true today. Some of his favorite quotes are: “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” “If you don’t have a strategy, you’re part of someone else’s strategy.”

You’ve got to think about big things while you’re doing small things, so that the small things go in the right direction. “Change is not merely necessary to life, it is life.” “To survive, to avert what we have termed future shock, the individual must become infinitely more adaptable and capable than ever before. We must search out totally new ways to anchor ourselves, for all the old roots — religion, nation, community, family, or profession — are shaking under the hurricane impact of accelerative thrust. It is no longer resources that limit decisions, it is the decision that makes the resource.”

It is time for Wilton to reinvent itself. We are NOT other communities. We need to get the best and brightest in our community to come together to set a new direction forward for our community!
