REC scholarship winners announced

Jared Townsend, son of Frank and Kristi Townsend of Wilton; Bryce Lafrenz, son of Jeff and Dawn Lafrenz of Wilton; William Iossi, son of Tim and Mary Iossi of Durant; and Coy Ruess, son of Monica Kopet of West Liberty, have been awarded $1,000 college scholarships from Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative. The Cooperative awards one year, $1,000 college scholarships to 20 area high school seniors.

This is the 33rd group of Eastern Iowa REC scholarship winners. The Cooperative has awarded 357 scholarships since the program started in 1987. This means $313,500 in scholarship funds distributed to students representing 50 different communities.

The scholarship winners will be recognized at the Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative district meetings to be held in July and August.

Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative, based in Wilton, serves 18,300 members in the rural areas of 12 eastern Iowa counties. The Cooperative awards scholarships to deserving students in each of its five voting districts.
