Posted

Cookie Bruffey Paper of Durant will celebrate her 80th birthday on Oct. 20 at the Durant Community Center. All relatives and friends are invited from 2 to 5 p.m. to honor her. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided. Please, no gifts.

Dimple “Cookie” Dee Smith was born in Webster Springs, West Virginia on Oct. 20, 1939. She married Hoke P. Bruffey (deceased) on June 7, 1959 in Upper Glade, West Virginia. She later married Kenneth W. Paper on Nov. 16, 2013 in Wilton.

After she graduated from Cowen High School in 1957 she began working as secretary to the principal for 3 ½ years and then moved to Iowa. She worked for the United States Postal Service, first as a clerk and then as postmaster in Stockton for a total of 36 years. She served as Stockton city clerk for 22 years and is currently the president of the Durant-Wilton Food Pantry and a member of and treasurer for the Wilton Baptist Church.

She and Hoke had two children, Patty and Phyllis. When her children were in school she was always available, actively organizing and raising money for new band uniforms, choir robes, class trips and more. As vice president and then president of the Band Boosters, she worked with the Polka Fest Committee to ensure the Durant Polka Fest was a huge success.

She is a friend to many people; preparing/providing food and shelter to anyone in need, assisting with transportation to/from doctor appointments, helping with decorations and much more.

Kenny, Patty, Phyllis (Dal) Morris and her grandson Michael (Christa) Peterson would like you to join them in honoring one of the most important people in their lives. Your presence to honor her will be your gift.
