Ronald Alan “Hoppy” Hopphan, 72, of Wilton died on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Leland Smith Assisted Living, Wilton. A private burial will take place in Walcott Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Hoppy was born in Davenport on Dec. 28, 1947, the son of Elmer and Valeria K. (Riessen) Hopphan. He attended Durant High School and graduated with the class of 1966. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, Missouri in 1970. Hoppy married Barbara Jansen on May 9, 1975 in Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport.

Early in his career, Hoppy worked at Liberty Trust & Savings Bank in Durant. In 1970 he joined Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative (REC), where he worked for 37 years, before retiring in 2007 as a division manager.

Hoppy enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends, especially poker. Hoppy was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Hoppy will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Jennifer (Ron) Klerk de Reus of Wilton and Katie (Justin) Paul of Wilton; three grandchildren, Gracey and Dawsyn Froman, and Bode Paul; his companion, Karla Howard of Wilton and her children, Lindsey (Carlos) Ramos and Courtney Howard; one brother, Jim (Betty) Hopphan of Dallas, Texas; one nephew, Brian Hopphan; and Hoppy’s dog, Nicky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Andrew Hopphan.
