Obit: Rita Urmie

Rita Ann Urmie, 69, of Wilton, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at her home after a battle with cancer.

Visitation was held Wednesday, July 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton, with a Rosary prior to visitation at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Tipton. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

Rita was born in Moline, Illinois on Jan. 12, 1950 to Bernard and Margurite (Gillman) Forwinkle. Rita married Philip L. Urmie on Oct. 7, 1972 in Moline, Illinois.

She graduated from Alleman High School in 1968. She then attended Augustana College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Language Pathology in 1972. She was a Speech Pathologist in the Quad Cities from 1972-1975 and in Rockridge schools from 1990-1999. She was also employed by Montgomery Elevator and the Stockton Post Office.

Rita was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton. She was a past director of religious education at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilton. She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and past president of the Wilton PTA. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Emma.

Rita is survived by her husband Philip, her son Jason (Toni) Urmie, her daughter Amie (Wayne) Vetter and her granddaughter Emma.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carol Brocker.
