Gary M. Howe, 77, of Letts, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.

Visitation was held. Oct. 28 at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The funeral was Oct. 30 at the funeral home. Burial took place in Oak Grove Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Gary was born on March 24, 1942 in Iowa City, the son of Lloyd O. and Mary L. Milner Howe. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1960 and Muscatine Community College in 1972. He married Charlotte Hinman in 1966, they later divorced.

He was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Turkey, Taiwan and California from 1960 until 1964. He had many occupations; from factory worker, accountant, bar owner to truck driver. He enjoyed traveling to the southern states, especially South Padre Island, Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his special friend, Charlotte Howe of Fruitland; three children: Denny Hinman and his wife Melanie of Letts; Deb Painter and her husband Chris of Fruitland; and Randy Howe and his wife Sandy of Letts; two step-daughters, Charlene DeLong of Letts and Cathy Richardson and her husband Robert of Columbus Junction; 10 grandchildren: Alaina Ortiz (German), Chasity Davis, Ashley Hinman, Craig Hackett (Andrea), Derek Kropf (Nicole), Amber Williams (Dan), Megan Lamb, Brenda Weyers (Ben), Mitch Painter, and Zach Painter; 12 great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Howe.
