Douglas H. Cook, 64, of Durant, died on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 3 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment was held in the Durant Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Douglas was born in Davenport on Nov. 28, 1954 to Harlan and Viva (Trail) Cook.

Doug graduated from Durant High School in 1973 and then graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman University) with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Doug married Debra J. Bland on Feb. 18, 1978 in Durant.

He retired in 2015 as the chief of police for the city of Durant, after 41 years of service.

He was a former member of the Durant Jaycees. He enjoyed playing cards and watching NASCAR. He was a founding member and volunteer with the Durant Ambulance Service for 38 years.

Doug is survived by his wife Deb; their children Erin (Craig) Stansfield and Matt (Alexis Elgatian), all of Durant; three grandchildren: Tyler, Grace and Brynn; and his brothers Charles (Donna) Cook of Greers Ferry, Arizona and Robert (Darline) Cook of Winter Springs, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
