Dale Thumma, 94, of Tipton, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at the Leland Smith Nursing Home in Wilton. Funeral services will be held at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton at 10:30 am Thursday, Dec. 5. Burial will follow immediately at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation was held Dec. 4 from 4-7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home. Dale was born on Feb. 21, 1925 in Stanwood, Iowa, the son of George Albert and Luella Alice (Burkholder) Thumma.

Dale served in the United States Army and in the Korean War. On Nov. 23, 1960, Dale was united in marriage to Frances Scorpil in Tipton. Together they farmed and enjoyed traveling later in life. Dale was a founding member of the Tipton Bible Church and served his church in many capacities over the years.

Dale is survived by his wife Frances, and son Steven Scorpil of Tipton; daughters, Patricia (Ron) Dickey of Muscatine, Marilyn (Wayne) Nebergall of Tipton, Kathryn (Leo) Grosjean of Fort Meyers, Florida, Ruth Nebergall of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Smith of Coralville, Carol Tholen of Tipton, and Deborah Latare of Cedar Rapids; 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (Richard) Smith and brother, Robert (Betty) Thumma of Tipton.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel and Jean; and four brothers, Merle, Glenn, Melvin and Harold Thumma.
