Marilyn Smock to celebrate 80th birthday

    Marilyn Smock of Atalissa will celebrate her 80th birthday with a party at the Atalissa Fire Station, 122 Third Street, on Sunday, April 29 from 1 until 4 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend. Light refreshments and cake will be provided. Cards and old photographs are encouraged. No gifts, please.

    Marilyn Hinrichs was born on April 29, 1938. She married Leroy Smock on Aug. 4, 1962. Marilyn worked as a federal meat inspector for many years at Louis Rich in West Liberty and Tyson in Columbus Junction. She also worked as a sub mail carrier in Atalissa for several years. In early years she worked at Nichols Wire and River King, both in Davenport. She worked lastly at the University of Iowa, which is where she retired from after many years.

    She belongs to Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Moscow. She helped with the United Way as a volunteer for several years. Marilyn has volunteered at Simpson Assisted Living for several years as well doing Bingo and helping with outings for residents.

    Marilyn has two children, Michelle (Chuck) Coghill and Michael (Karen) Smock as well as four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
