After a brief drizzle prior to the start, the sun came out to shine and illuminate a special event on Friday, May 18 at Neil Armstrong Elementary in Park View.

Yes, it was the day of the annual Eagle Marathon, the 1.9-mile race through the streets of Park View, but it was extra special because in a short ceremony prior to the start, Principal Tim Green announced the renaming of the event to the Bill McDonald Memorial Eagle Marathon.

Coach Mac was a teacher at Armstrong for 34 years, and loved working with kids and sharing his desire to promote healthy lifestyles. As a way to encourage physical fitness, he is the one who started the Eagle Marathon.

Coach Mac died earlier this year after a courageous battle with cancer.
