Obituary: William Campbell

A funeral service for William S. Campbell, 76, of Davenport, will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 9 (today), at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Campbell died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019.

William Campbell was born April 9, 1942, in Minneapolis, the son of Shan and Clydena (Caviness) Campbell.

He married Barbara Thomas on Dec. 5, 1966.

He served in the National Guard.

He worked for many years as a truck driver, retiring as night auditor.

He was in a barbershop quartet for many years. He was a member of Ridgeview Park Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the church choir, played in the church band, and was a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and leader of the youth group. He later joined Bettendorf Presbyterian Church.

His hobbies were music, traveling with his family, and watching baseball.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Cindra (Graeme) Childe, and Tracy (Aaron) Howell; his grandchildren, Jenna (Alissa) Sambdman, Jamie Childe, Elizabeth Howell, Marechal Childe, and Amber Howell; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pamela (Jack) Lohse.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Campbell.
