A funeral service for Vernona “Nonie” Zabel, 92, of Eldridge, was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was Monday, May 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
Mrs. Zabel died Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Vernona Heuer was born March 16, 1927, in rural Scott County, the daughter of Henry and Edna (Puck) Heuer.
She married Arlyss Zabel on Feb. 19, 1949. He died Dec. 29, 2010.
She and her husband lived and worked on the family farm until his death.
Her hobbies were dancing with her husband, playing cards, crocheting, gardening, watching sports, taking care of her yard, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Myron (Cindy) Zabel, Janice Zabel, and Joyce (John) Kemp; her grandchildren, Daniel Kemp, Steven (Kimberly) Kemp, Bryan (Marla) Zabel, and Loren (Darcy) Zabel; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; and her siblings, Florence Meinert, Bernice Schnack, Arnold Heuer, and Verna Rehm.
