Obituary: Veneta 'Carol' Abbott

A funeral service for Veneta “Carol” Abbott, 83, of Buffalo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation was Monday, July 22, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Abbott died Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Veneta Estes was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Trenton, Mo., the daughter of Charlie and Elizabeth (Wooderson) Estes.

She married Richard Abbott on Aug. 24, 1957, in Davenport.

She was employed for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator, and was later employed at Mast Development Company and later Red Jacket Pump, retiring in 1995.

She tutored elementary kids, belonged to the BVFD Fireman’s Auxiliary, volunteered at the food pantry, and was a member of the LCW and Calvary Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies were traveling, watching baseball, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband; her children, Karen (Brian) Hass, Buffalo, Steven (Bonnie) Abbott, Waterloo, Pam Abbott, Hiawatha, Roger (Sheila) Abbott, Davenport, Lisa (Dale) Sievert, Cape Coral, Fla., and Michael Abbott, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frieda (Terry) Foland, Astoria, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, W.H. Estes, Marilyn Jackson, Robert Estes, and Charlene Poffenberger.
