Obituary: Shirley Mericle

A memorial service for Shirley Ann Mericle, 79, of Davenport, formerly of Walcott, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Private family inurnment was in the Walcott Cemetery. Memorial visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mericle died Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Shirley Allen was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Inez (Wyldes) Allen. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1957.

She married Dwight Mericle on June 30, 1957, in Tacoma, Wash.

She was a teacher’s aide and worked in the library at the Walcott Community School.

Her hobbies were socializing, playing cards, spending time with her family, and wintering in Florida with her husband.

Survivors include her husband; her daughters, Brenda (Ken) Buesing, Stockton, and Dawna (John) Fuller, Davenport; a son, Kevin (Shelly) Mericle, East Moline; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Trisha, Justin, Stephanie, Emily, Taylor and Sydney; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Terri and Tammy Mericle; and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
